Did you Know?

Holding down the option key while clicking on the timeline views will change the Save As option to Replace. This allows you to replace unused timeline views.

If you hold down the option key while pressing Matchframe the system will keep the
original in and out points set for the clip.

Option key plus dragging a trim roller allows single frame motion while trimming.

Control key plus trimming A or B side adds black filler to maintain sync.

Control key plus clicking in the timeline allows lassoing within the timeline.

If you type DumpMaxPeaks into the console it will list a peak level for each audio channel

The Audio Tool displays a peak level and most decks only show an average level.
This is why the signal in the Avid appears lower when monitored on a deck.

You could easily obtain the total running time for some or all clips in a bin through the console.
Select the clips you would like to get the total running time for, then hold down the command key
while hitting the letter i. This will open the console automatically and display the total number of
clips selected and the combined running time.

Control plus double clicking on a title in a bin will allow you to revise a title without affecting the original title in the bin or on the timeline.

I’m sure you’ve noticed it. Blanking is that thin line of black you see on the edges of an image, most noticeable when using a Picture in Picture effect.

What is Blanking?

The blanking consists of 5 lines above each field in NTSC and 8 above each field for PAL. These lines can be used to store additional encoded information such as close captioning, edgecodes or key numbers for film projects, or various interactive or enhanced TV Codes.

Non-Drop frame counts frames at 30 fps, this causes a problem with timing. A show that is exactly one hour in duration will actually have a running time that is 108 frames over the hour mark.

Drop vs.
non-Drop

Drop frame corrects this frame count problem by skipping two frame numbers per minute (except for the tenth minute). This allows the shows running time to match the real time playback
(TC 01:00:00:00 = 1 hour real time). Use drop frame for broadcast material and non-drop for corporate or film transfers when cutting at 24 fps.
